Montenegro - The Potato Chick

Budva and Kotor, Montenegro

In a sentence...Montenegro has the X factor.

Food we loved...giant slices of pizza – lunch for 2 Euros!

Every now and then when travelling you have a fleeting moment when you think to yourself, “this is ridiculous, I just cannot believe I am here doing this”. I had one of those moments in Budva. We stopped here en route to Kotor to meet up with Jules and experience Budva’s “Carnival”. Whilst we arrived too late to see most of the parade we were able to enjoy a free concert featuring the top five finalists of “X-Factor – The Balkans”, along with several hundred screaming Montenegrin teenagers. The most popular performance came from the Balkans’ answer to One Direction (pictured below). In one word – hilarious. There is no doubt that this concert will go down as one of the highlights of our trip.

After a brief exploration of Budva we took a short bus ride to Kotor. Kotor has been on my agenda for a while now and it did not let me down.

A cute little old town set on a large fjord and backed by mountains, Kotor is absolutely stunning from every angle. We spent most of our time here just walking – around the old town looking for dinner or ice cream, up and down the town walls, along the gorgeous coast and up a large mountain behind the old town in search of the perfect view.

All that walking left me exhausted...and in awe of this tiny and beautiful country. Get here now - before the cruise ships completely take it over.

Next stop...Dubrovnik, Croatia
